About Me

I greatly enjoy the world of amateur radio for which I have been a licensed user since mid-September, 2018. I enjoy playing the odd video-game on the side or doing some programming as well. But most of my time is dedicated to running the not-for-profit, furry/otherkin oriented business enterprise called GekkoFyre Networks, which I'm extremely passionate over. The organization is headed by myself as the proprietor and lead system administrator whilst several other staff members, whom are a mix of both volunteers and paid contractors, also take part of in helping to achieve the overall mission objective.

Regarding my amateur radio hobby, the transceiver I use is a Yaesu FT-450D that operates on the HF range along with the 6 m band, and the antenna is a MFJ-1836H cobweb, as pictured below. My current QSL card is also visible and is a representation of me as a Dragon (this is called a fursona :) I take part in keeping QSL logs with ARRL's LoTW (Logbook of the World) program, am currently a paid member of, and have a profile on QRZ (verified member) and HamQTH. The activity I enjoy most with my HF rig is to have conversations with JS8Call with other users, whether they be from within Australia like myself or other parts of the world, as far as Sweden or the United States. For this, I make use of the 20 m band on the 14.078 MHz frequency, at least and until I upgrade my antenna. Then I will start using the 40 m band!

The final picture is a photograph of my beloved Bearded Dragon, Iggy, whom I adopted in the month of September, 2017. He was approximately five months old at the time and not cared for too well by the pet-store but quickly became spoiled in the care of my family. He had to undergo a number of visits to a specialist veterinary clinic who dealt with reptiles but soon enough, after the passing of some months, quickly became a healthy and feisty little bugger. The photograph below was taken on 11th September, 2018.

My primary call-sign is VK3VKK and I'm a Standard licensed amateur as a citizen of Australia. The Foundation License comes before and the Advanced comes after, for which the latter I am strongly seeking and studying for currently. Sadly, the licensing fees in this country are exorbitantly expensive and I've already spent a huge amount so far in my quest for an Advanced License, where the fees are divided up between the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) and the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). It's a disappointment that none of those fees go to the assessors who guide you through the licensing exams, of which two are required in order to prevent any cheating or corruption. The two assessors I had for my exams are some of the most wonderful individuals I have ever met, going completely out of their way to make me as comfortable as possible despite the fact that I was in the presence of an exam environment (and therefore quite anxious). They well and truly took into consideration my anxiety disorder, going above and beyond in order to cater to my needs. I just wish to personally thank Graeme Brown (VK3BXG) and Graeme Lewis (VK3GL) for all this!

For those interested, the artist for my current QSL card is Tahoma, who is simply amazing to work with. I highly recommend him if you wish to obtain a custom card design of your own.
